Study of Physical Water Loss in Water Distribution Network using Step Test Method and Pressure Calibration

Water distribution networks that are unoptimally operated can cause various problems so water flows not evenly distributed to consumers. One of the causes is high loss level due leaks in pipeline system, as one operators Jakarta, Indonesia, PT. XYZ has tremendous efforts improve supply system. them reduce physical losses. The estimated percentage losses Green Garden District, West April 2018 amounted 30%. It still above tolerance standard for national rate Indonesia's Utilities, around 20%. necessary overcome this problem. After performing a step test program it was found there 84 lps July 2018, which increased 103.16 l/sin May 2019 or showed an increase 23%. Then, pressure calibration undertaken by placing six monitoring points on district using hydraulic simulation from WaterGEMS V.10. This obtained highest Gap at point #5 2.5 mH2O and lowest #1 1.03 mH2O. Subsequently, leak detection measures were conducted January 2019, network uses two methods, visible invisible detections, had successfully reduced its net night (NNFs). repairs 77 points, consisted 32 45 leaks. Total leakage 5.33 decrease flow, indicates 16% March 2019.
